Basic methods of succeeding at a final exam

Final examinations are critical for students. They need to get high grades for so many important reasons – not to lose a scholarship, not to fail a course, not to disappoint their parents, not to fail the graduation, etc. All these things add a lot of pressure on their shoulders, and students start panicking, losing all their concentration.

Here are some practical and simple pieces of advice that will help you stay calm and succeed. Follow them for every final exam.

1. Learn in advance

It is obvious that every course has a final exam; no one has to tell you this every year. The best you can do is to learn in advance. Whenever you have some spare time, try to read another lesson. You will not know them by heart until the end of the semester, but at least you will be familiar with the content. It is easier for the brain to memorize previous read texts than completely new information.

2. Sleep well

Students use to stay up all night before the exam and study. But this is so wrong! The brain needs to rest after so much learning! And besides, during sleep, all the read information are processed and set deep into the memory.

3. Prepare for the worst

And hope for the best. It is wiser to prepare for the most difficult subjects possible, than to be taken by surprise. Make sure you will be ready to answer the toughest questions – pay attention to the details while learning. After all, what’s the worst it can happen – receive an easy subject and get a high grade?

4. Bring enough stationery

We’ve seen many students who came empty handed to exams. They used to beg for paper and pens to their colleagues. Why making a fool of yourself and come unprepared? Don’t be one of these students – bring enough sheets of paper and pens. Maybe you will write more than planned or maybe one pen will broke down. Just be prepared for the unpredictable!

5. Plan your time efficiently

During any exam, a good organization is the key to success. First, you must know which subject is more valuable, so listen carefully to the professor while he/she explains the exam. Note down the scores for every task and complete them in this order – start with the most important and finish with the one having the lowest score.

It is important to know how much time you have left, so always wear a watch. Do not rely on your mobile phone, because these are not allowed during the exam!

Now plan the time for every subject. Take at least one hour for the main essay – create a fast outline, start writing and in the end, proofread the text. Then move on to the other subjects – solve them and proofread!
If you don’t know how to create an efficient outline, read several essay services reviews and choose one to help you out. Learn the outline created by them and use it for the exam as well.

It is essential to check your paper before turning it in – under stress we tend to make unnoticeable mistakes. Read all the essays and make sure that everything is correct.

Don’t rush to get to the end of the paper. Forget about anything else outside that exam class and focus on the subjects. Right now, the most important thing for you is to handle in an amazing exam paper!

6. Write all the details

If you deal with an open question, choose to write everything you know about that particular subject. You have studied so hard, so why not showing off your knowledge? Professors like to read in-depth texts, proving that students have understood the problem and they have learnt a lot about it. Be an essay volunteer – create long texts for every subject!

Attention – add only details relevant to that matter. You will not get a high grade for writing useless facts.

7. Stay calm

It is vital that, no matter what may happen, you should stay calm and focused.
Sometimes, professors don’t give clear indications or they talk too much about the exam. Don’t get frustrated! Instead, read the subjects carefully and note down what you think you are supposed to do.

Other times, professors keep chatting one with another, making some annoying background noise. In this situation, you have two solutions – try to block their voices or ask them to stop. After all, you have the right to silence while struggling to solve those exam tasks.
